| | AccessExcellent access to North Queensland is provided through the Cairns, Townsville and Mackay airports, each just kilometres from the city centre. Cairns International Airport receives flights from all over the world daily and bus links to other regional areas, such as Port Douglas can easily be arranged. There is also a network of buses and intercity trains connecting North Queensland to interstate trains at the Brisbane Transit Centre. Alternately, helicopters, small planes and charter boats connect the islands and other regional areas from the Cairns and Townsville. This is a great way to travel in luxury. Sometimes, if you have a number of guests travelling to your wedding, you may be able to organise travel discounts through either the service provider or your local travel agent.
Climate Climate and weather conditions are very important considerations when planning your wedding. The region has a fabulous tropical climate ideal for outdoor weddings. North Queensland’s average daily maximum temperature in summer is hot and around 32ºC, the minimum around 23ºC. With increased rainfall, it is also the ‘wet’ season with rain, tropical storms and high humidity very likely. It has a winter period of balmy temperatures and low rainfall – a haven from the colder climates in the south. Winter temperatures do not vary greatly with the average daily maximum around 26ºC, and the minimum around 18ºC. Spring and autumn usually boast lovely sunny days followed by glorious nights. It is warm, dry and slightly less humid than summer so consequently the most popular times for weddings. You need to book at least 12 to 18 months ahead if you are considering marrying during these times.
During winter, dusk can arrive very quickly and so an early wedding is a very good idea. Summer months can be very hot and humid so summer brides should consider this when planning for the ceremony and reception. Perhaps bottled water would be a good idea and a nice shady spot if it were to be held outside. If you are to be married outside, ensure an alternative venue and an effective way of contacting guests at short notice has been arranged, particularly during the wet season. It is important you and your guests enjoy the day. Consider the comfort of elderly people and young children when planning your day. Finally, remember to consider the expected temperature and location of the wedding and choose appropriate styles and fabrics for the bridal party. |
