Just like any young girl growing up, Kathryn had always dreamt of meeting her Prince Charming, having the wedding of her dreams, and living happily ever after. After meeting Michael, and celebrating their marriage on Sunday 30th March 2008 at Montville, she knew her dream had come true. “It was a dream day, our wedding was just perfect!”
“I worked with Mick’s best friend and met Mick at a party. He lent me his jacket. I loved the jacket, and I loved the guy. I knew that it was the real thing,” said Kathryn. Mick proposed to Kathryn on a secret long weekend away in Melbourne. “He’d organised everything, including superb accommodation, tickets to the ballet and dinner. As we left our hotel for the ballet, he had a horse-drawn carriage waiting. Once sitting inside the carriage and happily chatting away, he then turned to me with a diamond ring, said the most wonderful speech that brought me to tears, asking me to marry him. It was a complete surprise.”
Montville was the perfect location for Kathryn and Michael’s wedding. The ceremony was held in St Mary’s Church, a quaint, little chapel in the village looking over the peaceful mountain ranges. Father Joe Duffy, Kathryn’s Catholic Parish Priest, and Reverend Bert Stevens, Uniting Minister and Mick’s great-uncle, conducted the ceremony. “We were very happy with how the two of them worked together. It was a beautiful ceremony and symbolised the two of us coming together and who we are,” said Kathryn.
Taking in the spectacular views to the Sunshine coast, contemporary paintings, sculptures, and exquisite fine art, the 80 guests were treated like royalty at the Main Street Gallery while enjoying sumptuous canapés and pre-reception drinks. “Poets Café and Main Street Gallery was the perfect venue for our wedding reception. The gallery was a wonderful area for our guests to mingle before the reception while we had our photographs taken”, said Kathryn.
Floral table centrepieces and three large arrangements with pink spray roses, pink lissianthus, dusty miller foliage, and pink tea light candles, provided by Montville Flowers, set the magical atmosphere in the restaurant. Guests were allocated tables and were then able to choose their own seats. “We decided not to have an individual seating arrangement and instead named each table after a place where Mick and I had travelled together, with a photo of us at that place, such as Italy, Cambridge, and Croatia. We also decided to have a Polaroid camera guest book so guests could photograph each other at their table.” Wedding guests celebrated and danced all night long with music provided by DJ Lee from Atmosphere Entertainment, and ate a three-tiered chocolate mud cake with traditional white icing and miniature pink roses by the Cheescake Shop, Maroochydore.
To top off a fairytale wedding and a wonderful day, Mick and Kathryn spent their wedding night in Santa’s Country Attic, Montville. “It’s a room above a Christmas shop, surrounded by all kinds of Christmas decorations. We chose it because it was the only accommodation in Montville of one room, so we were guaranteed not to bump into any guests!"
After sharing breakfast with some of the wedding guests the next morning, Mick and Kathryn honeymooned at Hamilton Island for ten days. “It was an absolutely spectacular honeymoon. We spent lots of time lazing by the pool and beach, lingering over late breakfasts, watching sunsets and cruising on catamarans. We had both been working hard leading up to the wedding so it was really nice to enjoy a relaxing holiday, just the two of us!” |
